Four WW I wooden props identification need.

Hi,

I need identification of four WW I era wooden props, which belongs to local aero club , Novi Sad, Serbia

Four props were saved in club workshop.









One is certainly from Russian plane, since there is an badge, written on russian
"Петроград Возд... винтовои"


Could be DUKS or MF-11 or even Anatra, these planes were used in Serbian aviation during and post WW I.




Diameters are 270/272 cm.

Writing on the props are:

Prop 1 272cm dia

"Петроград Возд... винтовои" and numbers 2203 11

Prop 2 270cm dia

K46 4158 D200 S185 P2 1PS160

Prop 3 270 cm dia

5156 90D UK(or OK)51 D=270 S=140 P=300

Prop 4 270 cm dia

90D D=270 S=145 P=280


Any clue?

Lovely propellers, which certainly appear to be early design.

It looks as if three are right hand thread and one is left hand.


I think that these will be very hard to identify, as to my knowledge no one has found a database that includes Russian (or other Eastern countries) manufacturing details.

All four are quite certainly Intégrale Chauvière propellers made in Russia, perhaps under license: the props shapes are Chauvière ones and Chauvière is known to have a "representation" in Russia.
The round stamp is very like ICP stamps (stamps, not decals) on Chauvière made in England: look at this one: http://woodenpropeller.com/Chauviere.html

"D" number is the diameter of the prop in centimeters,
"S" is probably the pitch in centimeters (hard to verify, but you can try)
"P" could be the blade width in millimeters: easy to verify

May be the PS160? is an engine power.

Aircraft and engine names are never stamped on Chauvière props before French army made it mandatory in 1915. I have no clue for Russia army rules.

Could you make a table with all markings for each prop and have the pictures numbered?

Hi,

Thank you for all the data, looks like part of the mystery is solved.

Prop with similar shape was used at Royal Yugoslav AF ANATRA DS Anasal, shortly after the WW I.

Could be the one of 150 hp Salmson radial engine powered Anasals.



Will later sort out the spec chart and post it here.
