  • Aircraft Supplies and Snowplane Manufacturing Company, Winnipeg, MB Canada

Leonard Short and his family played a prominent role in Canadian wooden prop design and manufacture. Currently, their story is being compiled into a fascinating narrative - long overdue. We are gathering stories about props that served, that survived. Hopefully, posting in this forum will help us to learn even more.

I started replying to existing posts, but soon realized this topic thread may be a better approach to consolidate wide-ranging interest. Many people are asking questions, as are we!

Share with us what you know or have and we will share with you when the Short story is compiled. Thanks in advance!

Leonard had many entrepreneurial interests over the years so I will be starting similar threads for:
    - Carlyle Propeller Factory, Carlyle, SK
    - S&S Aircraft, Winnipeg, MB
    - Granby Aviation, Granby, QC
    - S&S Products, Granby and Montreal, QC

I have a magnificent wooden propeller in excellent condition. I have for over a decade tried to search what aircraft this was designed for . With no luck. Even reached out to Kermit Weeks at fantasy of flight. Even more resently Sensenich Propeller as well, with no information.

With all due repect, the propeller is in poor condition at best due to the extreme alteration of the hub to insert a decoative item like a clock or similar item. It's really a shame because in other respects (excellent preservation of decals and original varnish) the prop has some great features.

I don't think I have a list of Granby model numbers but will check when I get home.

Thank you, Steve, for sharing your Granby Aviation prop pics. I do t have an answer for you right away, but I’m looking in to it. I know more about my family’s contributions to S&S Aircraft at the moment, but we are actively researching Granby as well.

Granby Aviation manufactured props for Gypsy and Cheetah engines which powered the Moth, Anson, and Airspeed Oxford (maybe others).

It’s possible that most of the Granby props ended up on Moths.

Attached is a photo showing identifying details for a Cheetah prop manufactured in May ‘43. Do you see similar markings on your prop?
