4/4/11
DH4 - Rolls Royce
c. 1918
Comments:  Manufactured for a British built DH4 this 4 bladed version was fairly common on British DH4's, while the U.S. built version typically used a 2 blade version.  The brass cap nuts shown in the photo are decorative and are part of the mounting bracket used to mount the propeller for display.  The 4 bladed version presumably improved ground clearance by shortening the length of each blade, but was never proven to be more effecient or practical than the 2 blade.  The DH4 served both as a bomber and a reconnaissance plane during WW1.   (As a display propeller this one actually requires less horizontal wall space, since each blade is positioned diagonally.)
