  • How do I identify this prop

    Help
My uncle gave me an old wooden prop that was hanging in his garage. I would like to know what the markings on it mean and how to identify what year it was made.
Also maybe the value if any20191021_164014.jpg

That looks like a U.S. Navy insignia, although the detail is not clear to me.

The other numbers are just a serial number along with the diameter (length) and pitch of the propeller, so they don't really offer much information.

Are there any other stampings on the area around the hub? Those can be very important.

Thank you for the quick response.
I do not see any other markings on the prop. It just looks old

It IS old. Look at the wood shrinkage compared to the metal sheathing, which doesn't shrink.

It's also not a "typical" design and may not have been manufactured in large numbers. I'm just guessing that it was made for one of the many flying boats developed by the Navy in the late teens and early twenties.

This prop has been hanging in my uncle's garage for many many years. It's a good conversation piece.
