  • Lang - Curtiss OXX Prop

Hopefully, someone will be able to tell me the specific make, model, and year of the airplane that my prop came from. Its dimensions are:
    Length: 97 3/4"
    Center bore diameter: 2 5/8"
    Bolt hole circle: 5 1/4"
    Hub diameter: 4"

The hub has the following markings:
    LANG PROPELLER NO. 3994 PITCH[missing]30 DIA. 24.89 DR. NO. 3L 74 L. H. CURTISS OXX

The serial number is either N. 13906 or N. 18906.

    Photos are posted at http://home.comcast.net/~v2min/LangProp.html

    Thanks for your help,
    Dave

I can't find that drawing number in any of my lists, so a specific I.D. might be hard, but it's almost certainly one of the thousands of surplus propellers that were dispersed by the Navy in the early twenties. Most of them were used on a variety of flying boats. You might see a stamping on the hub that has a small anchor symbol.
