  • How are 4-bladed props made?

I'm curious about the construction of 4-bladed propellers. It is essentially two regular propellers that are "notched" and fitted together. Or are alternating laminations laid down in the two directions, or what?

Of the ones I've seen they are made from two props that are notched.

Some were made with overlaping joints so it was a true 4 blade. I think I have some drawings of the process from Paragon. I'll see if I can dig them out.

Here's a page from a 1920 Paragon brochure showing the construction of a 3 bladed prop at the hub:

Very interesting! That would certainly test the skills of any woodworker!

I suppose I was primarily wondering about the techniques used on earlier WWI era 4-blades props such as the ones used on the RE8s and DH4s, as well as some variants of the SE5a.
