Hi all, I am new to this forum and hoping that I may pick your brains about the manufacturing techniques used for creating wooden airfoils.
As my profile suggest, I'm into renewable energy. I am now in the process of creating the blades for a VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) in a helical configuration. Because of the complex shape of the blades, I will have to do everything from scratch, even laminating the oak myself. Gluing and shaping the oak laminate should not be too hard (I hope...), but time consuming.
The big questions are:
1. What glue would be the best one to use for the laminating process?
and
2. To protect the wood from exposure to the elements, what chemicals should be used to treat and seal the wood (from start to finish)?
I understand that this thread may be considered a bit off topic for this forum, but it would be such a privilege to put classic knowledge to good use in a modern design like this.
