  • Got me stumped

Bought in the UK. Now resident in Australia.

    Black with cloth covering.
8 holes (hole to hole diameter 170mm)
    Inside hole diameter 85mm
    Outside diameter 240mm
    Depth 165mm

Had been sawn to make a clock mount, clock was missing at time of purchase.

One ID plate was missing, the other has the following stamped:

    NOV 1939

    AID 32K (in circle)

    H 4625

    61925

Thank you in advance for helping trace this prop's identity.

It's a left hand thread, British manufacture, probably for one of the Gypsy engines or similar. Is that a metal data plate? If so, what holds it in place?

None of the numbers correspond to published drawing numbers, so identification of aircraft use is likely impossible. If there is another plate that is missing, that may have had the drawing number on it, which would have identified the usage.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave.

The plate appears to be brass. Below is a photo where what was probably a similar plate was torn off (scoundrels) and it looks like it was just the linen and glue holding it in place.

I have caught the bug now and purchased a Gypsy Major prop with RAAF stampings today.

      Cheers, Glenn.
