  • 10' wooden prop

Inquiry: I have a wood propeller given to my Grandfather by Glenn Curtiss (as the story goes) when he befriended him while staying at
my Great-grandmother's boarding house in Buffalo NY, in the early
1900's. It is made out of what appears to be laminated walnut or mahogany. It is 10' long and 7-1/4" thick at the hub.
The hub has a diameter of 20" at the back, tapering to 11" in the front.
There is a 3" hole in the center, and 8 bolt holes spaced on a 4" radius from the center. There are no decals or makers marks that I can see.
The left-right references are made as though sitting in the cockpit. The numbers on the left are "2 " with "12862" underneath, or towards the center. The numbers on the right are "1" with "25374" underneath it, and "JX511" underneath them . There isn't now, and doesn't look like there ever was, anything on the leading edges. I was told that it was probably used on a Curtiss OX-5 engine. Does anybody have anymore information on this prop and/or an idea of the value of this?

Check the hub dimensions and refer to the linked chart to see if you can identify the engine usage. I'll see if I can find any reference to those numbers, although I don't think I can.

Value is dependent on so many variables that it's almost impossible to guess with just that information. A picture would help.
