  • Need help.

    Hello,
Any ideas as to the origins of this prop?
I won it at an auction. They listed it as "midcentury". It has no markings unfortunately. It is 70" long with a 6" hub. Five layers of laminated wood. Even general information is helpful, such as type of wood, a more accurate date of manufacture.
    Thank you!

Without stamped information all you can say is that it resembles hundreds of props made by many manufacturers for lots of planes. The geometry and shape are consistent with small engines (65 hp to around 150 hp) used on a variety of trainers.

To get an idea of the possibilities look at one single manufacturer, Sensenich, and see all the different models they produced. Now look at all the design numbers that begin with "70" and you'll begin to see just some of the possible aircraft and engines and utilized a wooden prop that was 70 inches long. And there were many, many other manufacturers.

Thank you, Dbahnson. I had no idea there were so many propellers manufactured. It is unfortunate there are no marks on this one.
      Thanks again!
