  • Wooden Flottorp Propeller

I have a wooden airplane propeller that my father acquired as an airplane mechanic during World War II. (He has been deceased since 1980). It measures 55.5 inches lengthwise and has blunt ended blades. It has a winged decal reading "Flottorp Grand Rapids 8, Mich." on each blade. If anyone knows the history of this propeller or its value, I would appreciate your input.

It looks to me like the tips may have been cut down, rather than manufactured that way by design. Are there any numbers stamped on it at all?

You are correct. The ends do appear to be cut off. There are no serial numbers on the propeller either. Does this negate any value it may have had?

Yes, it's really not worth much, frankly.

People always want to know at least what type of plane it was used on, and any damage or alteration really reduces any value to a collector.

Thank you for your input Dave. Frankly, I am not too surprised or disappointed, and, I would like to keep it for sentimental reasons. It is a great conversation piece as well.

The decals look to be in superb condition, so you can just look at the wood as a "decal display platform".

Haha. There's always a bright side. You're a true optimist.
