  • Banks Maxwell Prop Info Needed

I was fortunate to run across a Banks Maxwell Wooden Propeller at a garage sale. The gentleman said it was for an air boat. It had the stand and an engine he said was from a Corvair.

In doing some research some site said that the air boat props were wide and flat. This one has a twist(i'm a beginner- can you tell)to it and is brass tipped along the propeller and the end of it. It has the Banks Maxwell decals and the Model 680-24, Serial 25130 stamped in it. I am not sure the 0 in 680 is a 0 or a C but probably a 0.

If someone could provide me with some information as to whether it is from an air boat or not and an approximate age it would be appreciated and any valuation would be helpful( I only paid 40.00 and it really is a thing of beauty). It is in very good shape for its age.

I didn't buy the stand or engine but kind of wish I would have.

My catalogs are at home, where I'll be in 3 or 4 days. If you don't see a response here by then, just post a response to this thread and I will automatically get an email reminder.

        Thanks for the reminder.

I did find a model 68-C, which was for a Corvair engine (1964-196, but it was from a 1968 catalog, so it probably extended beyond that. It would have been used most likely on an airboat, but could have been used on another device, like a snowplane or ice sled. The catalog price in 1968 was $95.

There is nothing resembling a 680 model in their catalog, so it must be a "C" stamped on yours.
