PT19 "Shoninger Company - Eagle" Propeller

I am from germany and I am 38 old and we build the PT19 as radio control plane.
But some from us have some details questions....

Questions:

Why have the propeller a sheet metal and have a other wood or paint
Is that for protection or for a better rotation

It's primarily for protection, both against stones and other objects as well as water. The tip (painted green) is wrapped with fabric for additional strength.
