  • SB 72C48 prop

I was given a wooden propeller over the week end. It was made by Sensenich.
After reading some topics, I sent the numbers to Sensenich.

    A reply was quickly given.

My question was to them, I have a prop marked SER # 89382, DES 72C48, HP66, RPM 2350.

They reply was that it was made between 1932 and 1942. The 72C is commonly made with a 40 to 44 pitch. It is unusual to have a 48 pitch, and it must have been for a unique application. They have no record for it.

My question to the forum is, does anyone have any information as to where this prop came from??

    Thanks to all.

No, but it wasn't unusual for manufacturers to make a number of propellers with different pitch for the same drawing number. That would be considered a "cruise" type of propeller.

The type certificate typically would include a range of pitch values for a given drawing number. I'll see if I can dig up the range for that prop.

It's not surprising that they have no record of it.

Well, I don't even see the 72C type certificate as such listed, but there are a number of 72 inch variations, notably EC and DC, which have pitch parameters from 62"to 68" and 48" to 55", respectively.

You may have one built under the 72DC license (type certificate #734).
