I recently acquired this wooden propellor and would like more information about it. It measures 72” long and is marked: US Propellers Inc, DES 43K10107, SER 20539. Can anyone tell me what plane this was used on and when it dates from? Also, can anyone tell me if the wood has been stained or if this is the original finish? The brass on the leading edges appears to have been shellacked long ago, but I’m not sure if anything was done to the wood. Also, there are some areas of old paint overspray on the wood and brass leading edges. Can anyone recommend the best way to remove this in the least invasive manner?

I won’t spoil your fun by giving you the answer outright but if you follow this link:
http://www.woodenpropeller.com/MWP.html
Then click on the link for Military design numbers, then follow the cross-referenced number to the Sensenich page, you will find the information that you are looking for.
Spoiler: You won’t tie this propeller to a specific aircraft type but you can narrow the possibilities down to three...
