  • Question about identifying a Hartzell wooden propeller...

I recently acquired an old wooden Hartzell Propeller. It says it has a design number 4817J-48. It also has a serial number of 41944-A. Is there any information you could give me on the year and/or purpose of this propeller. Also, is it valuable to me? The total length is around 48 inches. The blade tips are flattened at the end and 4.5 inches wide. There are 6 holes around the center hole. The center hole has a diameter of 2.5 inches.

A picture might help, and I'll try to look up the number but with a length of 48 inches it's likely either been cut down from its original size or was made for something other than certified aircraft.

I don't know exactly how to post the picture other than just giving the previously posted link.

This one looks like an air boat or snow sleigh propeller to me. However, I have no information on these types of props.

Just use image tags, like this (which I added in your post so the picture would show up).

I agree with Lamar. It's almost certainly an airboat or similar propeller. None of us have listings to narrow down exactly what it might have been used for, however.
