  • sensenich wooden props for W-670 Continental engine

    Hi,

I'm brand new and trying to dig out information on a Sensenich wooden prop for the 1941 Stearman in which I am a partner.

We are using a McCauley metal prop which performs well but carries the burden of a 100 hour AD.

Does anyone on the forum have experience with a Sensenich wooden prop and the performance problems it may bring with it for our Stearman?

    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,

Not a lot of experience with Stearman's, but a few years ago I had the pleasure to fly this:

about 2,000 miles across Canada on a delivery flight to the new owner. W-670 powered, less than 100 hrs on the motor, and a Sensenich wood prop.

The only challenge was during the first 5 hours of flight as departure was at 3500' asl (Calgary, Alberta) and it wasn't the best pitch for that altitude.

Rest of the flight was memorable but, thank God, uneventful as most of it was over water, trees and rocks.

Sensenich makes great propellers and a wood prop just looks 'right' on the front of this classic.

    Regards
    John
