  • Dating A Wooden Prop

I have a wooden propeller, given me by my late father who was an instructor until he retired in his 80's. I would like help in identifying it's origin and date. The numbers on it are:

Serial No. R4917 (On the front face of the prop near the mounting center of the prop.)
Model: 720K-42 (On top the prop at center) (The serial number is repeated on top as well.)

The prop has metal edging at the cutting surface with rivets. It is in excellent shape.

I'm guessing it's manufacture is 1942. I was told by my father that it came off a Piper Cub. True?:

Upon close examination I believe you'll find that the design number is 72CK-42. That's a Sensenich number and you'll find the prop's usage here www.modernwoodenpropellers.com/sensenich.htm.

Thank you for your info. The prop, as I thought, very likely did come from my Father's J-3 Cub and was manufactured in the late 40's. You were very helpful.
