  • Porterfield FP-65

I have an old prop that I have tracked pretty well but do not understand some of info on prop.

Believe it is off a Porterfield FP-65 for a Franklin engine (Stamped on hub) and was mfg. by BENNETT (Stamped on Prop) Co. of Morganton, NC.

It has DES 26 and ATC 727 stamped on it.

Could you tell me what they mean?

Also, on the hub with the other info is a 46 which I believe to be a term to identify it as being made in 1941. ?????

This is my first attempt at the Forum and may not complete all but will insert a couple of pictures of it.

    Have more pics if needed.

DES is the design number, probably specific to that manufacturer.

ATC is the Type Certificate, filed with the FAA and applicable typically to a range of propellers using a basic design with allowable variations in pitch. I don't know where to find an ordered list of TC numbers, but I looked through the ones that I have listed by design number and couldn't find ATC 727.

The number 46 is unlikely related to date of manufacture, but might represent the pitch of the blade, which was usually part of the stamped information on most of them.
