  • Unknown wooden proeller

I have a wooden propeller that was found in a barn by my late father about 40 years ago. It lives on my office wall but I would like to identify it or the type of aricraft it came from. On the boss is inscribed (it has been over-painted to it's a bit difficult to read it all):

    DRG NO D (could be L or E) 579/2
    PRAG(?)A(?) B
    R H T
    D 5 2 P 3 132 (there is evidence of a 6 beneath the first 2)

    Does anyone have any ideas?

It doesn't sound like a full length propeller, or at least one that was used on conventional aircraft of any kind. Early propellers (WW1 era) generally were in the 8 foot range or larger, and more modern propellers were typically about 6 feet or more in length. Many remaining artifact propellers were actually cut down due to damage at the tip, and some of the shorter ones were used for non-aircraft purposes.

I think we'd need to see a picture of this one, especially in the absence of legible numbers....

Thanks Dave, I'll try to get a picture off to you but this will probably be after the New Year. It may well have been cut down as I don't know the provenance but it looks uniform each side of the boss.

          Regards and Thanks

            Hi Dave,

I now have the photos but i'm having trouble attaching them (blame me as a complete IT idiot).

Can I email them to you separately?

            Regards
