Prop Identity

I would appreciate any help in identifying my prop.

Have no idea type of aircraft, my grandfather gave the prop to me many years ago.

8'4x5'3' length
Wooden with brass tips. Has eight holes at the hub.
Decal on prop says: Buffalo Aeroplane Corporation, Buffalo New York and has a large star in the middle.

Prop has the following numbers stamped on it in the hub area.
OX5
SO 17208
18706

This is actually an early propeller, probably from the teens or twenties. We're not sure when Buffalo Aero went out of business, but they did manufacture quite a few propellers, many for the Curtiss company. The "OX5" stamped on yours indicates that it was designed for the OX5 engine, used on a variety of aircraft including the Curtiss Jenny. I suspect that the "SO" number is actually "SC", indicating a Signal Corps serial number, that is of no real significance. I'll see if I can match the 18706 number to something.
