Propeller ID Farman

Hi to everyone,

This is my first post in a subject area where I know nothing so please excuse me if this is a silly question.

I recently bought a propeller hub that had at sometime been used to house a clock or instrument, alas long gone. On the side is stamped the following:

IP
DG 2303
P80 REN
FARMAN
B 22292

These letters and figures appear on five lines as typed. Any help is identifying this hub and where it came from would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Jam,

The data on your prop hub indicates that it is from a British prop

Integral propeller (the maker)
Drg No 2303
HP 80 Renault engine
Maurice Farman (A French aircraft used as a basic trainer by the British)
Serial Number 22292

It dates from about 1915.

Well, that's interesting. In the DAtafile book on WW1 propellers it shows the IPC 2303 drawing number as made for a Maurice Farman but with a 80 HP Gnome engine. Those stampings imply that it was made for an 80 HP Renault engine. Maybe Bob Gardner will have some information to clear that up.

I'm presuming the "IP" means "Integral Propeller".

Edit:
In another listing it does show it as an 80 HP Renault, so the datafile publication may have a mis-print. In a WW1 Aero article years ago it too lists it as an 80 HP Renault. It also gives the diameter as 2900 mm and the pitch as 2625 mm.

Both engines came under the drg no IPC 2303 Dave.
