  • Suspect Sensenich propeller

    Hi all :
I came across this propeller for sale. The seller claims it dates from 1913.
The diameter is quite small : 48 inches or 122 cm, so I am doubting if this was ever used on an actual airplane. It has a decal on it stating Sensenich, but the decal does not match the correct Sensenich decal displayed on the forum and furthermore as far as as I know Sensenich didn't start manufacturing propellers until 1932 or something . The markings are also too neatly aligned to be from the WW1 era , I think.
I will try to upload some pics of the markings which I could not find on this forum to identify.
Is this a replica propeller ?
    Any information is welcome.
    Many thanks,
    WDS

You are correct about Sensenich production dates, so any claim about production prior to that is false. AFASIC, that renders the value as a collectible to nearly zero.

I would go further and venture the opinion that this is not a “propeller” at all, in as much as it has all of the characteristics of those mass produced display pieces that are so prevalent on a certain online auction site. The obvious giveaway is that it appears to be made from a single piece of wood, rather than being laminated. Somebody has clearly gone to some trouble to try to make it convincing as the real thing; let us hope that nobody is fooled….
EDIT: I have just found another one; it carries all the same markings and is an even more obvious fake, despite being laminated in this case:
