  • WW1 propeller hub identification.

I inherited an old wooden propeller hub ornament when my father passed away. This was previously owned by his father who was a CSM in the Royal Flying Corps. I am trying to identify from which aircraft this hub came from. Bolt holes no. 8 Hole diameters 5.010" (Probably 1/2" nominal size. ) Hole PCD is 5.00 " Any help in this id. would be welcome. Mike.

There are at least six laminations each approximately 7/16" thick. As the front is shaped on the edge when it was made into an ornament, it is a job to say if this was added later, or if it is the seventh lamination. The back ply cover was screwed on with small brass screws, so I carefully removed it but there are no stampings on the rear to help with any identification.

J would say that there are too many possibilities to make a specific identification meaningful.. Guesswork can narrow those down to a number of possibilities but it's still guesswork.

Going by the time that my grandfather was in the RFC, could it have come from a BE 1 or BE2 plane ? My father told me more than once that it came from a Zepellin, which I now doubt, as most of those crashed in Europe I believe. Grandfather was at Kenley aerodrome as far as I can find out.
