  • Help with identification!

I was offered the propeller shown in the picture for purchase, they said it was for Nieuport 11.
I would like to know from the dear members if it is possible?
    Thanks: Lovcsi65

    Hi,

No, it is not "possible", it is sure!

It is a Levasseur prop serial 450 made by a licensee, Leduc, which was in Vincennes, near Paris. The Levasseur serial 450 was approved for Nieuport 11 ans Nieuport 12 fitted with a 80 HP Le Rhone engine. This one (n? 6316) was probably made in 1918 or 1919, perhaps in 1920. It is a pity it was stripped from its varnish or lacquer and this low its value a lot! Pics of the two other sides of the hub could give a more precise date.

    Regards,
    PM

      Hi!
Thank you for the quick answer, which I was very happy about. Unfortunately, someone painted the whole thing dark a long time ago.
The person who is selling it now has started the renovation up to what you see in the pictures and is selling it in this condition for 1000 euros!

      Sincerely, Lovcs65

NO!!! The black color "thing" was its original state! It is a lacquer named Tonkilaque...

It is not a "renovation", it is a destruction!

Levasseur serial 450 are very common props. This one, with the original lacquer gone, the tips damaged and the additional holes in the hub, IMHO it is not worth 1000€. I would not give one tenth of that!

Attached, a Levasseur 450 made by Leduc in its original state, with the Leduc (meddle of the blade) and the Tonkilaque (at blade foot) decals...

        PM
