  • 12 foot propeller

My son came across this 12 foot propeller and we were wondering if it could be identified. I have done some searching but I do not see very many 12 foot propellers. This has the numbers 29505 and 29 2S-1 around the center. Looks like the tips may have been red at some point.

    Thank you

It could be almost anything, but once they get in the 12 foot and higher range the likelihood of its use on an airship rises. I certainly don't recognize the numbers, and they don't seem to reflect diameter and pitch.

You might be able to eliminate some engines if you go to this page and follow the instructions. It's looks like it might be consistent with a Liberty engine.

I will have him take the measurements, funny thing, I am a complete novice at this but looking at the pics I was thinking liberty, it looks like some of their styles.

      Thank you

A lot of styles are similar in appearance but the measurements for the hub go with the engine and eliminate the aircraft that don't use that engine.

          Hi,

Twelve feet is not enough data to find from which airplane it comes: I know of 4 different serials larger than 12' only for wooden Ratier propellers (one is 14').

Please, post pics of the 4 (four) sides of the hub (each one showing the hub side entirely), enough clear to read all markings. 29505 is probably the prop number (not the serial), so it is from a well known brand.
You can't deduce anything from the shape, except, perhaps, the brand name.
8 holes hub is not for a very high power engine (~350 HP max), but it could be rare for a 12' prop.
It is a left handed prop, so, possibly, for an airboat: is the shielding copper or aluminium ?

          Regards,
          PM
