It's a curious combination. The "S.G.D.G." and 'S.H.A.M,' are typically French, and Packard is U.S. The hub and the stamping is consistent with a U.S. manufactured Liberty engine, used on a whole variety of aircraft in the late teens and twenties.

If you could get good close-up photos of the stamped information we might be able to determine some logical possibilities, even though they are hard to read.

It's in good original conditions so it's important to keep it that way and not try to "restore" it in any way.

Is the rear of the hub cut with a notch? The hub thickness of 4 5/8 inches suggests that it was stacked with another prop to make a 4-bladed prop.

I'm guessing that this is the likely application. You only need to revise a few letters in your stamps to make it fit, including the French component and the reference to Packard.

Basically, the stamped information is probably "Lepere LUSAC-11".

Granville was a French propeller manufacturer, and it's probably their design, as it does not look like the "typical" Liberty propeller shape.

A close-up photo of the hub surface might disclose if it was every mounted or not. I suspect that it was a spare and never actually used on the airplane.

        Dave,

I have added the photographs of the decals to my database, but what is the name of the maker of the shield shaped decal? The middle one with the dark green background surmounted by the Eagle? Is it Packard? Does any one have a better photo of this decal, for my collection?

        With kind regards,

Bob, I'm pretty sure it says "Packard" but can't be certain.

I think DAniel needs to answer that question, though, and he doesn't seem to be responding to his thread.

              Bob,
On the first decal, I can just reed "USA" at the end of the writing below the "logo". I think it it the same that this one: http://woodenpropeller.com/forumvB/a...7&d=1540685495 (from http://woodenpropeller.com/forumvB/s...ead.php?t=3924 ) with the "gold" color become whitish from wear.

              Regards,
              PM

For insurance purposes I think you need a formal appraisal or else just use your purchase price.
