  • Hi guys, I'm stuck trying to ID

I've been doing the research and have come to a dead end. Time to ask for help.

    The Specs.

Copper sleeve with rivets, six laminations
    8ft. long
    Outside Dia. 8 3/4"
    Inside 2 3/4"
8 Bolt holes, filled with cork (why?) Never used?

    Markings:
    OXX-6
    SE 274
    LH
186 close to an anchor with US on top

My best guess is that this is from a Curtiss Flying Boat. Any additional info would be appreciated as this is a family heirloom, now on my wall.
PS. From my readings here, I've decided not to restore it. But would it hurt to polish up the copper?

    Thanks again,
    Geoff

It's from one of the flying boats from the late teens and early twenties, but I don't know which one. The OXX-6 engine narrows it down some.

I believe the "SE" in the drawing number refers to the Bureau of Steam Engineering, which was responsible for procuring propellers for the Navy then. Thousands were sold as surplus in the twenties, for about $2 to $4 each.

Hey, thanks for the info! I was never able to figure out what the "SE" stood for. Keep up the good work.
