  • Balancing of wooden propellers

I am intrigued as a "newbie" of how well balanced are the early wooden propellers. In general, I find early engineering remarkable. Some early hercules tractor motors did not have a water pump or thermostat, as the water heated and expanded the overflow would go into the radiator. Are these early propellers exact in balance? Was there room for error. From previous readings I know the synchronized machine gun was quite an advancement. I also recall reading that the early fighters had deflectors on the prop to deflect the bullets. Were you able to nurse a plane home with a battered and shot through prop? Just some random thoughts now that I am involved. Thanks.
