  • Help Me Identify my Propeller

    Hi

I'm from Johannesburg South Africa and bought a 9ft wooden propeller
at an auction recently. I am fascinated by it and wanted to try and find
out more about it. I am going to add some pics that I have taken of it.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Greg

Any markings on it? Very difficult to identify even with those, and nearly impossible without. The 10 hole hub is not common, however.

      Hi GregMeek,

Ten holes hub are, in France, found on props for engines with a power from 400 to 600 HP from the mid 20s to the end of the 30s. These props have a large hub (30 to 40 centimeters wide) and are pretty heavy (something like 30 kilos).
What is the length of the prop (or the size of the tiles!) ?

      Regards,
      PM

        Dimensions

        Thanks for the reply gents.

The length from tip to tip is 280cm.
The hub is 30cm wide and the Blades are 25cm wide.
Unfortunately there are no markings I can find
On it. It has marks along the edge where
        Metal used to be.

        Regards
        Greg

          Hi,
Try to take pictures of the rounded sides of the hub. The markings are not always very visible. Close up without flash but with light coming from the side may let something appear.
