  • I have no clue about the propeller, need help

I just came across this great forum. This is exactly what I was looking for.

I would like to know a little more about the propeller from the “Erste Sueddeutsche Propellerwerk Goeppingen.”

It got a total length of 2,80 meter. I guess that reflects also the number on the prop D-280.
Does anybody have a clue on what aircraft it could be fitted? The PS rating is 178 PS.

For the picture please start the media centrein the given link.

    Hi Radar,

Your prop is an excellent example of a German prop. As it says on the blade it was made by the Germania Co at the first South German Airscrew works at the town of Goppingen. The engine was a 180ps Mercedes engine and the aircraft was a Hannover CL4 dating from 1918. This aircraft is described in the reference books as an experimental aircraft which never made the front. But I once saw a single blade, identical to yours, which was from a shot down aircraft. Your prop confirms that the aircraft was more than an experimental one-off.

I'm writing a book on WW1 props. May I use a photo of your prop in it?

    With regards,
