Gruß, Monika, und vielen Dank für diese sehr interessante foto.

    The data translates as;

    160hp
    Mercedes motor
    Diameter 278cm
    Pitch 195cm
    Hugo Heine, the prop maker
N 17780 the serial number of the prop
Waidmannslust is a suburb in the North of Berlin

The letter D I might indicate the type of aircraft. Props of similar diameter and pitch were used with the Albatros D III and D V, so this prop might be from the D I. I believe only one prototype was made; the production aircraft started as the D. II.

The prop may have come from the crashed aircraft. The tail is distinctive.

I will ask the experts on another forum if they can identify the aircraft from the serial number (C-421)

    Mit freundliche Gruß,

    Bob

Wasn't the early Mercedes engine also designated D1?

Ah Yes! But Google tells me the Merc D I had 100hp, the D II, 110 to 120hp and the D III, 160hp in its standard form.

            Monika,

The experts on the Aerodrome Forum believe that the serial number on the fuselage, C421, and the shape of the distinctive tail reveal the aircraft to be a Rumpler C I, a recce aircraft powered by the Mercedes 160ps engine. I don't have the dimensions of a prop from this aircraft but the dimensions shown on your hub occur on similar aircraft with similar engines.

So we may assume that the pilot survived the incident and had the remnants of the prop converted into this souvenir.

            With kind regards,

            Bob

              Hello Bob,
              thanks for your efforts.
If you want, I send you more photos.
I can not tell anything about the history. I bought it from an old Lady in Mülheim / Ruhr.
So there is no family background.
Maybe somebody want's to buy it ?

              Best regards
              Monika

                Monika,

I suggest you put it on eBay.de together with the data we have found for you. Starting price should be low, say €10 EUR, to attract bidders. It is a good example of its type and should sell for more than €120 EUR.

                Tschüss,

                Bob
