I also own another german prop.
For a fokker DVII
It's marked for a Mercedes engine 178CV and also for a BMW 185ps engine.

I agree with your thought. The serial number suggests it to be a prop made late in 1918 when it was a Merc 178ps prop.

Later it was used by a Francophone nation; France or Belgium where it was fitted to a BMW 185ps engine.

I can think of three possibilities; all require the BMW hub and the Mercedes hub to be identical.

It was captured when the war ended or was provided by the Germans as a reparation. (France received a number of aircraft and spares). The third possibility is that it was part of the cargo on the trains that Anthony Fokker brought from the Fokker works in Schwerin to Rotterdam at the end of the war. It included aircraft, engines, propellers and machine tools. He might then have provided the prop to the Belgians or the French as a replacement.

Hello,
It was originally a bmw prop and later used on a mercedes engine.
The bmw is stamped from the manufacturer and mercedes later on ...mercedes 178cv(chevaux)
I personally think it was used by the Belgian airforce since it was found in Belgium and they used about 35 fokkers afer the war. I also have a control stick from a fokker DVII also found in Belgium.
Do you know what the little stamp is beneath the serial number?
It looks like a name and adress.

Yes, I got them the wrong way round.

The little stamp under the serial number. The semi circular one, if that's what you mean, is for Waidmannslust, the suberb of Berlin where Heine had his workshop.
