  • Need help for identification and value of an WWI Wooden Prop

    Hello!

I´m new to this Forum and need your help to identify an old Wooden Propeller which I´ve found on the attic of my grandparents house. My father told me that his grandfather brought this.

I´ve found some informations about the manufactur using google but nothing more helpful about this even only that it must been made between 1917-18 in Germany by the BFI.

The Propeller is about 2,80m long, made from a light color wood.

I add some photos of the stamps on it here so maybe you can help me easier to identify it and tell if there is a value for it?

    The Stamps say

    DR RAHTJEN
    PROPELLER
    NR 7006

    100 PS
    MERCEDES
    D 265 STG 118
    EDULZUG

    Sorry for my bad English
    Greetings from Germany

Grussen Taurus und wilkommen zur forum.

    Your data translates as;

made between 1917-18 in Germany by the BFI.
    Bleicheroder Flugzeug Industrie GmbH
    Bleicherode am Süd Harz.
    Berlin Office; Boxhagenerstrasse, Berlin O34.

The company was located in Bleicherode in the Southern uplands of the Harz Mountains and made propellers designed by Herr Professor Doktor Rahtjen, the company name represented by the letters BFI to the centre of their decal.
Dr Rahtjen made propellers from at least 1911 in his own right. Idflieg records BFI on 8 February 1918, June 1918 and 31 August 1918. I only have records of four props, which also suggests a limited output. It is possible that BFI were recruited late in the war to make props to Dr Rahtjen’s design.
The workshop at Bleicherode was quite large at 150m x 20m and employed 268 people. In addition to propellers, aircraft wings were made. Two of the known props were made entirely of pine and both are from late in the war.

DR RAHTJEN The designer, Herr Professor Doktor Rahtjen
    PROPELLER
NR 7006 serial number of the prop

100 PS 100 horse power engine
    MERCEDES Maker of the engine
D 265 STG 118 Diameter (Durchmesser) and Pitch (Steigung) expressed in cm.
EDULZUG anticlockwise rotation in a tractor configuration.

The diameter, pitch and low engine power suggest an early training aircraft or a Taube.
