Identify Propeller WW1

I am new to the Forum and need help identifying the type of aircraft this propeller came from.

This propeller was found in a battlefield around Metz, France many,many years ago. I have done some initial research on this but would like further opinions.

I think it's a Garuda design, but it looks to me as if it has been cut down in length. The diameter should be 280 cm, but in the photos it looks shorter.

Can you measure it from tip to tip?

Welcome to the forum.

Your German prop is a good example of an early WWI Garuda prop. The year 1914 has nothing to do with the prop. It is the date that the Kaiser authorised the use of the Iron Cross, which is part of Garuda's decal. It had previously been authorised during the Napoleonic wars and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

Your prop was designated by Inspektion der Fliegertruppen (which I doubt needs translating as the English version is very similar) for C class aircraft such as the CI made by AGO, AEG, DFW, LVG. Many other makers made CI, CII and CIII aircraft but only those above used the 150ps Benz engine; the rest used the Mercedes 160ps engine. Inspektion der Fliegertruppen is generally abbreviated to Idflieg.

Blatter 025 abbreviation for Blattbreite which means blade width, here 25cm
Stg 175 Steigung, pitch 1750mm
DRP Deutsche Reichspatent, the patent system in use from 1871 to 1945.
ZVG Zug; abbreviation of EDULZUG, itself an abbreviation indicating anti-clockwise rotation.
P&W geprutt Gepruft; Approved, tested by the P & W (Prufenstalt und Werft which tr. as the Test Institute and Workshops of Idflieg.
1240 The revs achieved on test which are slightly lower than specified.
6554 Garuda's serial number

Thank you for the quick information. I am part of the founding group of a new museum coming to the state of Arizona, called the Copper Art Museum. One of the rooms features military art with and emphasis on ww1 trench art and associated artifacts. To accent the room further, this propeller was placed on the wall. I just needed to get the info straight as we are creating a storyline about the propeller. Again thanks so much and let me know if I can be of assistance to you. We have another ww1 propeller but i will have to get the info first before i can email again. During our initial research we found that the D.I may have had a 150 benz engine? is this a possibility as well?

You are right. I didn't know that any of the Albatri D series used the Benz engine but some D I's did. A quick trawl through Lamberton & Cheesman shows that the 150ps Benz engine was also used with the Halberstadt D IV and
Hansa-Brandenburg CC and KDW.
