  • Lang sopwith 21.4.17

    Hello
I just found your very interesting website and I see differently the wooden propeller I bought,*just for «*déco*», 20 years ago in a junk market in the south of France. Now, numbers and letters stamp to it have a sense*!
It is all varnished, but in a very thin coat an the varnish is very «*crunchy*» - you can see some missing varnish spots showing directly the wood...is it the original varnish*?
Unfortunatly tips were re-painted, but it's possible to see original dark green-grey colour and the fabric on some spots...
Can you can tell me more about this propeller?
    Thanks

I'll look through my files when I get home to see if I can find that drawing number ("LP 1020 A" is the drawing number, and the key to accurate identification). It looks to me as if the finish is original except in the area of the small repair and the unfortunate repainting of the tips. One sign of originality is the preservation of original decals without evidence of a "halo" around it where the original finish merges with the refinished area.

Certain the 21.4.17 is likely the date of manufacture, but "Sopwith" alone could pertain to a number of different Sopwith aircraft of that era.

The LP1020A was designated for the Sopwith Pup with either a LeRhone or Clerget engine (80 HP).
