  • New to the Propeller World and looking for info on my purchase

I purchased this propeller at a consignment shop. I was wondering if you could give me some information about it. It is 66" long, 9" wide, 6 hole with 2 1/4" dia. shaft hole. Stamped on the side of the Hub is as follows:
    Billy Mitchell
    94tn Aero Squadron
    1917
    Spad XIII
on the prop itself is stamped 2775 2905

Any additional info you could add would be great!

I don't think that any SPAD XIII propellers used a 6 bolt hole hub, so I'm VERY suspicious that the stampings are not original. Certainly the propeller has been substantially altered, i.e. cut down in size and freshly painted on the tips. It also would be EXTREMELY unusual to have the pilot's name and squadron stamped on the hub like that, and even having a date stamped is not very common.

My impression is that it's a piece of a modern propeller that has been made to look like something that it isn't. Sorry.

      amazing

I was waiting to see if either dave or lamar or bob gardener would post thier thoughts on this prop. I have to agree with dave, so many things not right about this prop, the stampings and the name and squad number. Amazing what people will try to pass off as something original. I hope the price paid for this prop wasnt over $100.00. Seeing how it was in a consignment shop, perhaps the person that decided to see if it would be sold wasnt bold enough to put it on E-Bay.

As ever, this forum is a constant source of education about the world of " airscrews". Thanks Dave for your observation and input.
