  • Help please with La Rhone Heine propeller clock ID

    Hi,

Could anyone please help me identify what type of aircraft this propeller centre section is from ?

The centre has been turned into a clock case & looks as if it has been cut lengthways. There are no signs of bolt holes (which I understand is for a Rupp fastener ?)

    The side is stamped

    100 PS
    ROHNE (La Rhone misspelled ?)
    D 250
    ST 240
    HEINE

I believe it may be from a Fokker aircraft, but I've looked through La Rhone engines and can't seem to find a 100 HP model & the central hole at approx 10cm is larger than any of the centre bore measurements given in the hub dimensions chart

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated,

    Kind Regards,

    Douglas

It looks as if the central portion of the hub has been cut out and enlarged, possibly for a clock, barometer, photo, etc. I don't think that the Rupp fastener was used on LeRhone engines, but may be mistaken about that.

Perhaps Bob Gardner will have some idea of its application, or at least be able to narrow it down to a few. German props can often be particularly hard to identify.

      Good Afternoon Douglas,

I have always suspected that the man who stamped data on Heine props was illiterate, or at least not very bright. Most people who stamped props made occasional mistakes but Heine props show more than most. I have seen three variations on the word Rhone. The word Gnome also baffled him! He also quite often used the letter N upside down in the word Heine and this might possibly be the case on your prop, although not much of the N is visible.

I suspect that he got the horsepower wrong as well and that it should have read 110ps.

I don't have a Heine le Rhone prop of this dimension listed but Axial made one with D 2600 and St 2400 which was for the Fokker Dr I, the Dreidecker. And there are several of around D 2500 St 2300 for the Fokker E series.

      With kind regards,

      Bob

        Dear Dave & Bob,

Thank you for your quick replys & for the information, it is very much appreciated.

It didn't occur to me that the HP would be wrong, but with the other spelling mistakes that you mention,it really makes sense (I was searching all over for a 100HP la Rhone engine but couldn't find one) & it looks like the central hole has been enlarged

Thank you again for your time & knowledge,

        Kind Regards,

        Douglas.
