  • Propeller i.d.

    I bought a wooden prop.and want to know more about it.This what I know and this is whats stamped on the hub of the wooden prop.
    Its 8'4" long AND IS A 8 BOLT HUB
    Hub markings are:
    LIBERTY MOTOR LANG CO.
    NO 5116 PITCH6.65 DIA 8.4
    DRG NOSE5090LW
    H.P.370
    WHAT IS THIS?

      thanks dave, it does look like the picture. Only problem I have is, someone painted the whole prop with silver spray paint. any I deal what I should do with or is it ruined. Is there any value to this unit?

        Sometimes it's possible to experiement with different solvents in hope that you find one that removes the outermost finish only. I spoke with some restoration people at the Air and Space Museum years ago and basically their advice was to start with the mildest solvents and try removing the paint from the rear of it first, then move up the list of solvents and hope that you find one that works. I did do this with one propeller and was pleased that the decals remained in place, along with the paint and fabric on the tips. It's still a "restored" propeller, but it's a lot better than a "ruined" propeller covered with paint.
