  • Lang propellor

Today I was shown a part of a Lang propellor (sticker still visible !) in Belgium. I was told it comes from a crashed a/c during WW1 near the Belgian village of Moeskroen near the French border.
On what fighters was it used?

If you can find the drawing number I'll be able to tell you. It will begin with LP (for Lang Propellers). For example LP2850 is a prop for a Sopwith Camel. Lang Propellers made props for many different aircraft.

      Bob,

The part this guy showed me was only some 50 cm with the Lang sticker on it. I might check it again for a number. Can you tell where I might find it? He told me his grandfather found it at a Camel crashsite !

      Regards,

      Paul

          Bob,

Just had another check on this prop and it still has a part of the hub...
It shows only a part of a number 20-
The - might also be a dot.

            Hi Paul,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The size of the blade and the number of laminations suggest that it was a comparatively big prop intended to transmit a lot of power. However Lang made props for a large number of aircraft; see below.

I am often told that a prop is from a Camel, usually by the family that has owned it since great-grand-dad brought it home in 1919. Very often their belief is wrong so you should not pay too much attention to the thought that it came from a Camel crash site.

              Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply ! As told this guy said his granddad recovered it from a Camel crashsite....but one never can tell for sure as you state unless we have some written proof, so we have many options.

              Best regards,

              Paul
