Legion Post propeller

Our American Legion Post 2 in Peoria, IL has had a WWI wooden propeller with copper tips hanging on our wall since way back when?
I was hoping that someone might be able to identify it
The local legend says it fell off of Lindberg's US Mail plane as it flew over Peoria.
It has the serial number S.C.63255 with a small "four-armed" trade mark.
I can supply photos of the prop and markings.

That's a Signal Corps number stamped on it, and doesn't have much significance per se.

There's a 99.99999% probability that the legend that goes with it is pure nonsense, and not just because of the claim that it "fell off".
