Help ID Prop

I have a wooden propeller that I am trying to find information on. From what I can tell from the markings they say B 3971 or B P 971. It's a little worn.

It is a dark colored wood, 86 inches long and has 8 holes on the hub. It has metel going down each side down around the ends of each side.

Any input would be appreciated.

Could be anything. There's a big difference between "B 3971" and "B P 971" if you are trying to match it to a database. There were thousands of different designs made over a relatively short period of time, and the color of the wood, the number of laminations, the presence of metal sheathing, etc. are all virtually meaningless in that case. To make matters worse, records matching design numbers and aircraft usage are difficult to find.

A picture would help, but probably won't be enough to identify it.

Well, it's military in origin, probably dates from the 1920's and is almost certainly of American design. We might not get any further. Could you post a photo of all the data stamped on the prop, usually on the hub?

Thanks for the information! The only information I can determine on the hub is B 3971 or B P 971 it's a little worn. I will try and take a better picture of the hub tonight and post it. Thanks again for the information.
