  • Hartzell Walnut Propeller

I have a Hartzell Walnut Propeller that I have been searching for more information on. I would like to know more about its age and what type of plane it possibly could have been used on. It is 8 ft. in length. Made of walnut. Has copper ends. The numbers do not match anything that I have found online. It appears to be C54 then the rest is hard to read, possibly a 3 or 8? The top right of the hub has a sideways 2 and the bottom left a sideways 1. Your website and the Hartzell site have helped me learn a lot of information already, but any other help would be really appreciated!

Interesting. I haven't seen a Hartzell decal with "Curtiss" on it before.

These can be very difficult to identify. You might start by seeing if the hub dimensions match a known engine.

Try rubbing the numbered area with a little turpentine or even linseed oil, look at it closely with a magnifying glass in various angles of light and see if you can narrow the numbers down.
