  • Gardner Propeller For Sale

    Hello All,

I have a Gardner airplane propeller for sale. It is not airworthy but it seems to be in good antique condition. It would make a great display piece.

    Here is the info:
Tip to tip length is 72"
    Marks near the hub read:
    "Max HP 60"
    "Max RPM 2400"
    "DES 369"
    "Ser K40444"
    "A.T.C. 676"

    Maybe off of an Aeronca?

It looks as if something fell on it or rubbed on it on one side near the end. No major damage, it just kind of indented the wood in a line about a quarter of an inch wide that runs across the blade. Its not bad, but you can see it.

The "Gardner" logos are in very nice shape.

Also, there is an area around the hub that looks like the varnish has turned cloudy. This area is about as big as the palm of your hand and it is on the side mostly.

I will try to get some photos posted here on the site this weekend.

If you are not interested in buying it, can you maybe tell me more about it? Should I list it on Ebay?

I will do my best to answer any questions...

    Thanks

    Gardner prop pics

    Hey gang,

Here are the pics from my prop. Feel free to contact me with any advice, offers, info, etc.

    Thanks

    Overall Prop

    Rub marks on end.

Hub Detail. You can see the cloudy spot here on the side of the hub. I don't think that the varnish has delaminated, it just looks cloudy...

Does anybody have any information about this prop? How old is it? How much is it worth? Any advise for selling it? Ebay?

      Thanks

According to my Gardner web page at http://www.modernwoodenpropellers.com/gardner.htm it was made for an Aeronca plane. Aeronca made their first plane using a 60 hp engine in 1940 so it won't predate that time.

Selling prices on eBay can vary dramatically but I would guess this one would sell in the $300 to $600 price range right now.

It's a nice looking prop, and don't worry about the scratches. I'd try to sell it on eBay with good close-ups of the decals, which make it somewhat different from your average Sensenich prop.
