  • Flottorp R003 232 72T Propeller - Is it worth anything?

    Hi...

I'm looking for input on this Flottorp propeller. I got this prop from a longtime friend who has since passed away. He said he flew an aircraft up to Alaska from the lower 48 back in the early 70s and it had this prop on it. He didn't care much for it, so he took it off and put on a different prop. He had it stored in his garage for years until he gave it to me to put in my shop as a wall hanger. I don't remember what airplane he said it was on, maybe an Aeronca. I never did hang it up, I kept it in the crate it was in.

So the question is does it have any value other than a wall decoration? It looks like all the hardware is there and it's in excellent condition. There are no logs. I'm not in the vintage aircraft scene as most vintage aircraft in Alaska are parked out on the ramp! Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Metal props, especially variable pitch props like this one, are a whole different knowledge base. There's a guy named Monte Chase who runs a website notplanejane.com. I think that's by far your best next step.

My impression is that it might be quite valuable to the right person.

Thanks for the reply! It’s interesting that you categorize it as metal. The prop is painted silver, but it’s certainly not metal…probably wood or some other material. I would assume that if it were metal, it would be quite a bit heavier and there wouldn’t be a need for a metal wear strip tacked to the leading edge. Without picking it up, there is no way to be able to tell from the pictures it wasn’t made of some type of metal.

My mistake. Photos don't always do them justice. I'd still contact Monte Chase.

            Yeeeha,

I just purchased a 1946 Cessna 140. As I have been going through the log books, it shows that it had this exact propeller (different Serial number) installed on it back in 1955.

The engine in the airplane at the time was a Continental C-85 (85 h.p.)
I do not have any photos of it in the airplane.

Currently this is a project airplane for me. I currently do not have an engine, so I am a long way off from flyable!

Are you looking to sell or donate the propeller?

I am in middle Tennessee just outside of Nashville.

            Such an interesting prop!
