View Full Version : Propeller ID Assistance Requested

I recently received an old propeller that was my wife’s grandfather’s. I was told that he had it for many years and would love to learn more about it. It is in rough condition as seen in the pictures and since it does not have a bolt pattern, I think that it could have been a reject.

Here is what I know:

8 feet – Overall length
8.5 inches - Widest part of blade
1.125 inches – Inside diameter of the center hole
8 inches – Diameter of the center round portion
4 inches – Thickness of the center round portion

Marking on blades:

8 (dot) 53

X 239

There is also a large letter “R” on both sides on the slope.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I think you're right that it was likely a reject, although I believe some props were left undrilled on purpose to allow them to be used on different engines.

Unfortunately, I don't recognize the numbers and can't identify it. I'm just guessing that it dates from the late teens or early twenties, but that's highly speculative on my part.
