I own a 4-bladed airscrew from a WWI F.E.8, with following stamped marks around the hub:

F.E.8 FALCON AIRSCREW. DNG. NO. T.7928. 100. GNOME. MONO. SOUPAPE

Date stamped: 27.2.17

Also stamped on the hub is the name of the manufacturer: D.M.D. and there is a single decal near the tip on each of the 4 blades: "D.M.D. Regd London".

Who was/is D.M.D?

Many thanks,

Chris

Nice prop. I couldn't find any information about the company, except that they are listed as an "airscrew specialist", implying that they just built propellers and not aircraft or other wood products, like furniture.

Dave:

Thanks for this. I have since discovered from Bob Gardner that DMD likely stands for DM Davies (Cottenham Road, Holloway, London). The Falcon Airscrew Company was apparently owned by DM Davies, and the decal only appears on props stamped for the Falcon Airscrew Co. (and mine has Falcon stamped on it).

I found the prop about 35 years ago slung on a garbage heap outside a convent in Harpenden, Herts.

Information and pictures of the Falcon Airscrew Co. factory/workshop would be much appreciated if anyone has such.
