That's more than a "partial notch" of the center bore.

The center bore has been enlarged for a clock or similar item.

I agree Dave, that's quite a notch on that propeller. At least a couple of inches deep. Really hurts the value on something so beautiful otherwise.

I think when these props hit the surplus market in the early 1920's they were almost disposable, so people did "creative" things with them, unfortunately.
