    Greetings JGW,

    Welcome to the forum.

The data on your prop translates as follows:

DRG AB 8080 Designed by the Air Board in Britain. It was the standard British prop for the 3:4 geared Hisso engine from Feb 1918. It was made under contract by several makers. The only one I have recorded so far is Vickers.

    D 2514 (Diameter)
    P 2850 (Pitch)

    SE5 A The aircraft type.
200hp HISPANO - SUIZA 3/4 The geared Hisso engine

G 458 N 93 The batch number (of 100 props and this was no 93 in this batch.) This particular batch is an early contract probably dating from late 1917. This date does not indicate the delivery date which might have been months later.

    With kind regards,

    Bob

      Thanks Bob,

Thats really interesting information. I expect the prop is in its origional condition, 3/4 of each blade are fabric covered and painted dark grey and the hub is painted black, the remaining 1/4 root of the blade is plain wood.

The prop itself is in good condition woth no damage.

All the stamped markings on the hub are clearly visable.

Do you have any idea what the value of this prop is likely to be?

        Hi,

Post a photograph if you can.

It's worth about 1750 GBP here in Britain, about 2800 USD. Are you selling it?

        With kind regards,

          Hi Bob,

Unfortunately im not wanting to sell it, i was merely interested in its value from an expert like yourself.

I love it, it is a beautiful peice of history. I fly and have my own aircraft so i have a huge interest in aviation and its history.

I will take some photos and post on here at the weekend, if i can learn how to do it!

Many thanks again for your information and help.

The value of £1750 GBP is the price it is likely to sell for at auction in Britain. A dealer would sell it for about £3000 GBP, which is the price you should insure it for.

            With kind regards,
