  • Pls help ID Prop to Aircraft

    Hi there Guys,

I have a prop my Grandfather restored in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) to be mounted on the wall with Clock. It has a Copper Indent plate with the following info:

    Cheetah X.P.696
    DRG.Z.8981.D.7.33
    SER. G.R.S.1116
    June 44

I have searched the web and followed a couple of links you have on the forum replies to no avail I cannot find what type of aircraft or engine it was used on. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Stew

    Stew,

I don't have that drg no listed and I suspect it was never used.

The idenitfication number Z indicated the prop was designed by the Airscrew Company at Weybridge, England.

Z.3931 was used on the AW Cheetah engine, Mks IX and X, with a diameter of 7.33 ft and a pitch of 6.96ft on the Airspeed Oxford Mks I and II. This was a twin engined training aircraft used for training navigators and wireless ops. It was used by the Royal Rhodesian Air Force to train Allied aircrews.

    With kind regards,

    Bob
